What are the challenges and the opportunities in addressing the needs of your English learners?
This professional learning series is part of the multi-year professional learning system designed to build capacity of district or site administrators, coaches, and teacher leaders over time to be responsive to English learners' language, academic, and social emotional needs.
Guided by the California English Learner Roadmap, this series will develop a leadership team's ability to support teachers in planning and delivering high-quality integrated and designated English Language Development (ELD) instruction that will provide access for English learners. It will work to ensure that all students become 21st century global citizens with high levels of academic language and the ability to demonstrate real-world application of rigorous academic content. This series is structured for district or site leadership to work as a team through the learning. Consistent representation from teams in all four full-day sessions and the two Professional Learning Leadership Network (PLLN) meetings is strongly recommended.
Goals:
- Build capacity of district or site leadership team to create, implement and sustain a system that supports English learner success
- Build capacity of teachers to provide equitable instruction through integrating language and literacy development into content instruction.
Teams (3-6 members):
- District - Including District Office Lead, EL and Content Area Coaches, Special Education Specialist, and MTSS/PBIS Coordinator (if applicable)
- Site - Including Principal, Teacher Leader, Coach, Counselor, and Special Education Specialist
