Statement of Inclusion
The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is committed to creating a safe and inclusive school environment for all youth, one free from harassment, intimidation, bullying, and discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation. The SCCOE is devoted to addressing the needs and inequities that LGBTQ youth experience in school. Incorporating an inclusive atmosphere free from discrimination is identified in
Title IX, AB 537: California Student Safety and Violence Prevention Act, the SCCOE’s
non-discrimination policy, and
its goals.
It is our shared responsibility to ensure that everyone in our school communities is valued and respected regardless of gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, and that the SCCOE is actively working to create more inclusive policies and practices that support, and uplift LGBTQ youth. We encourage students, staff, and community members to learn about one another, celebrate inclusiveness and diversity, and positively contribute to growth, success, and the safety of our Santa Clara County families.

LGBTQ Information and Resource Guide In alignment with the SCCOE’s mission and vision, this Guide is available to help support LGBTQ Persons, School districts, families, allies, and community members. The LGBTQ Information & Resource Guide provides a vehicle to start the conversation, as we educate ourselves and others about the unique issues and challenges facing LGBTQ youth. Its contents have been culled from government agencies, community organizations for LGBTQ Youth, and educators with the intent to support positive environments while offering various ways to promote advocacy, change attitudes, and to create policies and laws that achieve full equality for people who are LGBTQ.

Created to encourage school staff to publicly identify as supportive LGBTQ allies on campus, the
OUT for Safe Schools™ Campaign lets students know that “safe spaces” are throughout the entire school campus. Staff who wish to participate, and are trained, in the SCCOE OUT for Safe Schools® Campaign can wear the badges displaying their willingness to talk to students and parents about LGBTQ concerns. |
