APPLICANT GUIDELINES FOR A LIVESCAN
Note: Live scan fingerprinting is provided to applicants by APPOINTMENT ONLY.
To be fingerprinted using LiveScan, applicants are required to obtain a REQUEST FOR LIVESCAN from the hiring employer or requesting agency (i.e., school district, community college, non-profit organization) prior to scheduling an appointment.
OBTAIN A REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE
For Classified and Certificated Employment (including permanent positions, non-permanent or substitute assignments)
by a school district or charter school:
If you are an applicant selected for a classified permanent, classified non-permanent (substitute) assignment or a teaching (certificated) position, a REQUEST FOR LIVESCAN SERVICE form will be provided to you by the hiring school district/employer.

For Credentials:
A REQUEST FOR LIVESCAN SERVICE form is required if you are applying to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) for any of the following:
- Out of State Credential Registration.
- Preliminary Teaching Credential.
- Substitute Teacher Permit
In such cases, the REQUEST FOR LIVESCAN SERVICE form will be provided to you by the Credential Services Unit at the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) upon submission and completion of required documents.

VISA or MasterCard can be used for payment
- You must present a valid form of identification. This must be one of the following: a current California or out-of-state driver's license OR Department of Motor Vehicles Identification card.
- After obtaining your fingerprints and demographic information, the data will be electronically transmitted to DOJ/FBI for processing.
- DOJ will send the results of the background clearance check to the requesting employer/agency

NOTE: SCCOE LiveScan Technicians do not receive criminal background clearances or information.
Fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ/Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)). If the DOJ/FBI does not provide your employer or agency with the criminal history information within 30 days, the employer/agency should file an inquiry with the Department of Justice (DOJ/FBI). The applicant should contact their respective employer or agency.
