Intro to Home Visits 1.5-hour professional development training session
Home visits are among one of the most impactful practices for building relationships, establishing welcome and creating trusting bonds for family, school and community partnerships. Research has shown that home visits decreased chronic absence rates, increased academic success, decreased suspensions and expulsion rates, and increased rates of applying to 2 & 4 year colleges. Participants in this workshop will reflect on current mindsets and challenges for adopting home visits as a school-wide practice, receive a high level introduction to home visits, and explore some strategies to apply before receiving formal training or implementing home visits as a school-wide parent engagement practice.

Service With a Smile: Creating a Culture of Welcome and Belonging Family-facing professionals are often the first point of contact between a family member and the school, well before the student even enters the classroom! The connection between the family and the school is solidified in that first interaction. More and more, educational professionals are recognizing that strong customer service and student achievement go hand-in-hand: when parents, students, and staff feel valued and heard, engagement increases which leads to student achievement. This highly interactive workshop aims to identify the “why” which spearheads the need for extraordinary customer service in creating a culture of welcome and belonging for families.
Training is suitable for front office staff, librarian, school counselor, principal, community liaison, teacher, coach, parent volunteer - anyone who interacts with parents. If you want to consider how you could improve the customer experience to build trusting relationships with families in your school community, this workshop is for you.
