SAN JOSE, CA – Throughout October, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) will share a weekly series of topics to help schools and the community plan for an emergency situation.
"This project is the work of Michael Vallez, our new Emergency Preparedness, School Safety & Security Administrator, and the Media & Communications Department. With my full support and encouragement, Michael and the Communications staff have created October as School Safety Month with a weekly series of topics to focus on student, staff, and community safety," stated County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan.
"The first week will focus on emergency preparedness and our role as a disaster service worker. Week two highlights fire safety in the workplace and at home as well as wildfire safety. The 2018 Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill and personal safety will fill week three. And finally, school bus safety, anti-bullying, and teen driver safety will conclude our safety month," added Dewan.
"This material will be available on our website and shared via social media. With each week's communication, we will include a few exercises and simple actions to help better prepare for an emergency situation," added Vallez.
