SAN JOSÉ, CA – On April 4, 2024, the Santa Clara County Office of Education’s Artspiration presented the second annual Viva el Mariachi Showcase at the School of Arts and Culture housed at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San José.
The evening’s showcase highlighted the talents of students throughout the area with performances from:
- Alum Rock Union School District Mariachi
- Grupo Folklórico de Downtown College Prep Alum Rock High School
- Alisal Union School District (Salinas) Mariachi Academy
- Mt. Pleasant High School (East Side Union High School District) Las Palomas
- Lincoln High School (San Jose Unified School District) Mariachi
- Los Lupeños Juvenil (San José)
“The Viva el Mariachi Showcase is a vibrant celebration of culture, young people, and the arts,” said Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools. “Having a platform to elevate the importance of art, diversity and inclusion, heritage and culture not only allows for expression of talent and creativity, but it stresses the importance of community.”
The evening also included performances from Mariachi Los Gavilanes de Monaco Middle School (Las Vegas, Nevada) and the Aztec dance group Calpulli Tonalehqueh.
