The Commission on Teacher Credentialing requires every credential holder to pass a Basic Skills Exam. This is called the Basic Skills Requirement. There are several ways to meet this requirement.
You can take the CBEST exam.
There is a CBEST defferal currently in place due to COVID-19 closures. This deferral is available to applicants that have not attempted all three sections of the CBEST exam. If you have tried all three sections of the exam, you are not eligible for the deferral.
The Commission will accept SAT/ACT scores if they are high enough. The required scores are:
Examination Math English
College Board SAT 550 500
ACT 23 22
