WHAT:
- "Harvesting Equity for All Children & Youth, Inclusion through Integrated Services" is the title of the Third Annual Inclusion Collaborative State Conference, sponsored by the California Department of Education-Special Education Division and First 5 Santa Clara County. Over 80 different sessions covering three specific age ranges (birth to 5, Transitional Kindergarten through fifth grade, and middle and high school) will be available for participants. The philosophy of inclusive education is that every student is valued, belongs, and has the right to be a member of the classroom community.
- Attendees will meet with other education professionals to learn from experts and peers from the field about inclusive practices for ALL students, from birth to 12th grade.
- Twenty-six total virtual sites around the state will also participate by tuning in via a live webstream to connect with and learn from their peers during the conference.
- The event will include keynote addresses by:
- Christy Kavulic, Associate Division Director, Office of Special Education Programs;
- Dr. Wendy Murawski, Executive Director, Center for Teaching and Learning, California State University, Northridge;
- Dr. Ann Turnbull, Retired Distinguished Professor, Beach Center on Disability; and
- Dr. Richard A. Villa, author of "The Inclusive Education Checklist: A Self-Assessment of Best Practices."
- Students from the CONNECT Post-Senior Program at the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) will be on hand to assist with obtaining "The Pledge of Respect" from conference participants; sign the online Pledge of Respect.
