SAN JOSE, CA – On August 4, 2021, the Santa Clara County Board of Education (SCCBOE) took action to make a provisional appointment to fill the vacant seat. On June 18, 2021, the SCCBOE had announced it would be accepting applications to fill a seat on the County Board of Education for Trustee Area 2 due to the resignation of Vice President Kathleen King. Eligible persons interested in consideration as a candidate for appointment were invited to apply by July 16, 2021.
The SCCBOE selected Tara Sreekrishnan for the provisional appointment after holding interviews with the five eligible applicants. A provisional appointment confers all powers and duties of a governing board member.
Ms. Sreekrishnan joins the seven-member county board with public policy and community outreach experience at the city, county, and state level. She attended K-12 public schools in Santa Clara County including Murdock-Portal Elementary School, Kennedy Middle School, and Monta Vista High School. Sreekrishnan was a co-founder of the nonprofit Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action (SVYCA). She is currently the deputy chief of staff for California Senator David Cortese.
Trustee Area 2 includes the Cupertino Union, Lakeside Joint, Loma Prieta Joint Union, Los Gatos Union, Saratoga Union, Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School Districts, and small portions of Santa Clara Unified and Sunnyvale and the corresponding portion of Fremont Union High School District. Ms. Sreekrishnan will be sworn in on September 1, 2021, and will hold the office through November 2022.
