SAN JOSE, CA – On January 30, the Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, delivered the annual State of Education address, a report of how students are performing and the successes and opportunities for public education in Santa Clara County. Maimona Afzal Berta, President of the Santa Clara County Board of Education, opened this annual event.
From increasing and advancing the workforce to promoting the importance of early childhood education, the efforts of the SCCOE coupled with valuable partnerships are ensuring the success of nearly 240,000 students across Santa Clara County. This year’s theme, “Together we..,” highlights the SCCOE’s gratitude for its partners, which include educators, school districts, policymakers, and community-based organizations.
“Our work is not done alone,” said County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “Our collaborations have made a significant difference for the overall performance and well-being of children and their families. The education workforce in our county is dedicated and hardworking. They make a difference every day in the lives of students.”
Parts of the event included students from various programs and schools across the county. Students from the Los Gatos High School Orchestra Club, Sunol Community School, and the Santa Clara County Youth Poet Laureate demonstrated their talent, creativity and civic engagement.
This year’s event included the release of the Annual Report, which highlights how the SCCOE leveraged limited resources for the most impact on student equity, diversity, inclusion, engagement and well-being. The Annual Report and a recording of the address can be found online by visiting
