SAN JOSE, CA – Among the nearly 300 middle and high schools announced as part of the
2024 California Distinguished Schools Program, 16 are in Santa Clara County. This recognition program spotlights outstanding schools in two categories: closing the achievement gap and demonstrating exceptional student performance.
“Distinguished Schools are examples of excellent teaching, learning, and collaboration, as well as highly successful, data-driven school efforts ranging from professional development to positive behavior intervention,” said County Superintendent of School Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “These exemplary schools are providing the support necessary for students to thrive at school and beyond. Congratulations on earning this honor.”

Elementary schools and middle and high schools are celebrated in alternate years. Awardees hold their titles for two years. Award winners are invited to celebrate in Anaheim during May.
In collaboration with the California Continuation Education Association Plus, the California Department of Education also spotlights exceptional continuation high schools through
Model Continuation High Schools. Two of the 31 recognized statewide are in Santa Clara County. The schools demonstrate comprehensive services to vulnerable youth, often redefining alternative education and providing a positive school experience for students. The following schools in Santa Clara County were announced as Model Continuation Schools in 2024:
San Jose Unified School District
| Broadway High School
|
Milpitas Unified School District
| Calaveras Hills High School
|
Awarded schools keep their designation for three years and are recognized at the California Continuation Education Association Plus Conference in April.
Locally, the Santa Clara County Office of Education will host a small celebration for them.
