San Jose, CA - The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) was awarded a 2022 Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association (CSBA) for its Silicon Valley Reads program. In its 43rd year, the Golden Bell Awards highlight excellence in public education and school governance programs and practices throughout the state of California. The SCCOE was one of 52 award recipients.
The Silicon Valley Reads program was among 205 entries for 21 categories judged by a panel of members from school districts and county offices of education.
“We are humbled and honored to accept this award as we honor the twentieth anniversary of Silicon Valley Reads,” said County Superintendent of School Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “Silicon Valley Reads helps increase literacy and demonstrates the importance of books, writing, and conversation for schools, parents, children, and the community.”
For two decades, Silicon Valley Reads has brought people together through books and events centered on a focused theme that resonates with the community. The countywide reading engagement program will celebrate 20 years in 2023, with free special events at schools, libraries, and local organizations. These events include author talks, panel discussions, educational events, demonstrations, performances, adult classes, student activities, story-times, and art shows. The Silicon Valley Reads program is presented annually with the Santa Clara County Library District, the SCCOE, and the San Jose Public Library, in partnership with other public libraries, community colleges and universities, and community organizations.
