WHAT: The Mystery of Risk: Drugs, Alcohol, Pregnancy and the Vulnerable Child will be co-sponsored by FIRST 5 Santa Clara County and Santa Clara County Public Health Department. This invitational summit will feature Ira Chasnoff, M.D., one of the nation's leading researchers in the field of child development and the effects of maternal alcohol and drug use on the newborn infant and child. Attendees will learn about perinatal alcohol and substance exposure, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and how to support affected children, young adults, and their families.

This event is designed for medical, legal, and education professionals. Dr. Chasnoff is president of Children's Research Triangle and the author of many books including "The Mystery of Risk: Drugs, Alcohol, Pregnancy, and the Vulnerable Child," "Risk and Promise: a handbook for parents adopting a child from overseas," and a regular contributor to "Psychology Today."
