WHAT: Third Annual Chinese Star Contest co-sponsored by the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) and the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University intended to encourage the exploration of Chinese language, art, poetry and culture by K-12 students. For the event, the SCCOE will be transformed into a cultural exposition as students will present their entries. More than 350 students submitted more than 500 entries to compete in the five contest categories: Calligraphy (pen/brush), Painting/Drawing, Chinese Poetry Recital, Speech, and Team Video.

This unique program encourages Chinese language learning and cultivates an appreciation of the Chinese culture; recognizes the achievement of students who have invested their time and effort into learning Chinese language and culture; provides an opportunity for students to develop global awareness and apply 21st century skills; and provides a platform for students to show their multilingual talents and language proficiency in Chinese, and to enhance friendship between the U.S. and China. The final awards ceremony to recognize the winners from Saturday's competition will take place on Saturday, November 12.
