Santa Clara County Office of Education and partners applaud investment
SAN JOSE, CA – In its continued advocacy for the health and well-being of children and families throughout the county and to further emphasize the importance of early learning initiatives for all students, families and the community, Santa Clara County Office of Education applauds the announcement made by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors of the first countywide Children's Budget.
As detailed in the report, the Santa Clara County's Children's Budget broadens the scope of support for childcare facilities within the county, so they can better serve families and the community.
Children make up nearly a quarter of the total population in Santa Clara County. Nearly 2 million people reside in the county of Santa Clara and of that are approximately 450,000 children under the age of 18. This new funding will help to provide children with a positive early education experience that will influence and enrich a lifetime of learning.
“Budgets can be a statement of values; representing the investments a community is making in areas of priorities. We know students who participate in early care and education experiences achieve accelerated academic milestones from elementary through high school," stated Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, County Superintendent of Schools at the Santa Clara Office of Education.
The funding will be allocated towards facility and environmental improvements for childcare centers and family childcare homes.
“Access to safe, high quality care, health, and education programs contribute to the well-being of the child and the whole family," said Dewan. “The Children's Budget represents a stake in the ground – that children and families are a priority."
