SAN JOSE, CA – On May 6, 2023, the 10th Annual Lam Research Heart and Soles Run recognized the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) as one of the beneficiaries. Nearly 2000 participants joined the annual 5K/10K race, helping raise funds for local youth health and wellness programs provided by the YMCA of Silicon Valley, the Boys and Girls Club of Silicon Valley, and the SCCOE.
With a team of 65 group members, the SCCOE won first place in the large companies category of this year's Heart and Soles Corporate Challenge. The corporate team included SCCOE employees, their family members, and students served through SCCOE programs.
“We are extremely grateful to be a beneficiary, so we can continue our work to expand wellness centers and mental health and wellness resources for students throughout Santa Clara County,” said Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan.
A decade ago, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation in partnership with the SCCOE, the South Bay Labor Council, and the SJSV Chamber of Commerce, created the run/walk event to benefit children’s health and wellness. In 2014 Lam Research lent its support as the Multi-Year Title Sponsor, naming the race “Lam Research Heart & Soles Run.” Since then, the race has raised over $800,000, benefiting organizations through funding for exercise programs, physical activity equipment, and mental health resources.
Funding from the Heart and Soles run will assist with the development and expansion of wellness centers throughout Santa Clara County. School wellness centers provide safe and supportive environments where students can connect with wellness staff. The wellness centers offer several opportunities for students to engage in group, individual, and family activities that support discussion on depression, grief, self-esteem, family life, stress, dating violence, sexual identity, and other health and wellness matters.
