Schools play a vital part in California’s response to the health and mental health needs of children and youth. The
Youth Health & Wellness Department's School Health Systems and Billing recognizes the need to identify sustainable sources of revenue to support districts’ comprehensive approach in providing and expanding health services for students. School Health Systems and Billing designs and provides training and technical assistance to Local Education Agencies across the state on all aspects of school-based health systems. The department works closely with consortium partners in assisting LEAs with developing and implementing systems and structures to leverage various billing options such as the Local Education Agency Medi-Cal Billing Option Program (LEA BOP), School Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (SMAA), Medi-Cal Managed Care (MCP), Family PACT, County Specialty Medi-Cal, Child Health and Disability Program (CHDP), and commercial insurance.
