SAN JOSE, CA – This week from August 2 to 5, Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) and its arts initiative, Artspiration, will exhibit twenty-eight pieces of local student art at the Pavilion Building inside the Santa Clara County Fair. The student works will represent a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, and multi-media pieces.
The exhibit will highlight the 2018 student winners of the Young Artists Showcase, an annual county-wide art competition open to kindergarten through 12th-grade public school students.
"The Young Artists Showcase recognizes both self-expression and creativity. Student works from this competition are displayed at the County Office of Education throughout the year. We house the largest collection of adjudicated student art within the state. Our building is open to the public, but our visitors are primarily educators and education professionals. Partnering with the County Fair allows us to share this unique collection of art with our community," stated Jeannine Flores, Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator for the SCCOE.
The kindergarten through eighth-grade art exemplifies the theme "ART from the HeArt," the collected works express how art comes from the heart.
"Every year, I am captivated by the creativity of the local young artists. This heart-warming collection features images of family, friendship, and love of nature both terrestrial and beyond," adds Flores. "The high school art focuses on the theme 'Perspectives.' This fascinating collection focuses on perspective, both in terms of depth and distance and point of view."
On Friday, August 3, Artspiration will be on-site at the Fair for Education Day. This one-day event of interactive and educational activities is for kids attending summer camps throughout the City of San José. Students will make art projects such as crayon rubbings and masks.
The SCCOE Artspiration Initiative works diligently throughout the year advocating for the arts in public schools.
