Welcome to the Santa Clara County History-Social Science & Civic Engagement Program!
Our mission is to provide instructional and other services to improve understanding of economics, geography, world and United States History, and Government, as well as to instill the skills and dispositions of civic learning and participation. We seek to move history-social science education beyond the rote memorization of facts by engaging students in the inquiry of documents and images and engaging with non-fiction text.
The SCCOE History-Social Science (HSS) department provides:
History-Social Science workshops, conferences, and student events for K-12 educators.
Customized professional learning services for districts for all areas of history-social science.
Professional development for choosing and implementing adopted textbooks.
Professional learning and resources to help educators and school administrators. successfully implement California's History-Social Science Framework.
Resources from the California Department of Education to help students understand what is happening in the world today.
