Affirms the Santa Clara County Board of Education’s Commitment to supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community and youth.
SAN JOSE, CA – On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, the Santa Clara County Board of Education (SCCOE) unanimously approved and signed a resolution formally supporting processes, resources, and activities that celebrate LGBTQ youth, raise awareness and acceptance, and recognized the contributions that the LGBTQ community has made, both present day and throughout history.
With a call to action for localized efforts that support LGBTQ youth, the SCCOE is diligently working to provide supports to districts and stakeholders, create inclusive policies and practices that support, and uplift LGBTQ youth, and make schools safe for all students, adults, and parents, regardless of sexual orientation. The SCCOE LGBTQ website, it’s Information and Resource Guide, and Out for Safe Schools technical assistance serve as resources and conduits to partnerships with The Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs and Behavioral Health Services of Santa Clara County.
This year’s resolution not only celebrates June as Pride month, but endorses the County’s impermeable commitment to making our schools safe, and its tremendous sense of pride in taking a strong stand in support of human rights.
