
WHAT: The Advancing Latinx Achievement and Success (ALAS) Conference is a free bilingual conference designed to increase the number of Latinx college graduates in the community. This half-day event designed for families of students in grades five through 12, will empower families with strategies for the college application process and financing options. Other topics include how to prepare students for college, the importance of college, and how families can support their children through their journey. Sessions are available in Spanish and English.
WHO: The Silicon Valley Education Foundation in collaboration with Santa Clara County Superintendents Association, San Jose State University, Santa Clara County Office of Education, Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, UC Berkeley Center for Educational Partnerships, San Jose Cal-SOAP, and CommUniverCity have partnered to present this event. This event will feature a keynote panel moderated by Damian Trujillo (NBC Bay Area) and panelists: Sergio Jimenez, (San José City Councilor); Jose L. Manzo, Superintendent, Oak Grove School District; Ana Dapelo-Garcia, Lean in Latinas and Stanford Health Care; and Beatriz Medina Pratt, Facebook. Other notable guests and speakers include Dr. Mary A. Papazian, President of San José State University; Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, County Superintendent of Schools; and Ron Gonzales, President and CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and former Mayor of the City of San José.
