Wellness Coach Apprenticeship Program

LAUNCHING IN 2027!
Program Description
The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) Educator Preparation Programs is developing the
Certified Wellness Coach Apprenticeship, launching in 2027 in partnership with Foothill College. This
Earn-and-Learn pathway introduces individuals to school‑based wellness and behavioral health careers while supporting them in completing the requirements to
become a Certified Wellness Coach in California.
Apprentices will receive
paid on‑the‑job training, free tuition, textbooks and materials, and
ongoing mentorship while completing college coursework aligned with state certification requirements.
This pathway is designed for individuals passionate about supporting youth, exploring careers in social work or mental health, and gaining hands‑on experience in school wellness settings.
Program highlights include:
- On-the-job
Wellness Coach training within
East Side Union High School District and other SCOOE partner sites
- College coursework through Foothill College leading to an
Associate Degree,/strong>

Mentorship, on-site support, and structured training throughout the apprenticeship

Completion of a Wellness Coach Certificate and eligibility to apply for Certified Wellness Coach I upon graduation
For Candidates
Students in this program get a clear, direct path to becoming a Certified Wellness Coach—with
paid experience, built‑in fieldwork hours, and college classes that fully meet state certification requirements. You’ll earn while you learn, gain real skills working with youth, and graduate ready to step into a meaningful career in wellness and behavioral health.
