AB 727 (215.5 and 234.5) which requires LEAs to include The Trevor Project suicide prevention hotline number beginning July 1, 2026. This legislation follows the federal government’s removal of the LGBTQ+ option from the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, and represents California’s response to ensure continued, a​ffirming access to crisis support for LGBTQ+ youth.

• Edcode Section 215.5: Requires public middle schools, high schools, and public or private institutions of higher education to print the telephone number and text information for The Trevor Project’s 24/7 crisis and suicide prevention hotline on student identification cards.

• Edcode Section 234.5: Mandates the California Department of Education to post and annually update resources for youth and families affected by school-based discrimination, harassment, and bullying on its internet website.​
