PERFORMING ARTS AEROSOL STUDY REPORT 34/19/2021 12:53 PM

PERFORMING ARTS AEROSOL STUDY REPORT 3

These results are preliminary and will be further defined as the study continues. These preliminary results are to assist in the safer return to performing arts activities. This study focuses strictly on the distribution of respiratory aerosol that is generated while playing wind instruments, singing, acting, speaking, dancing, and in a simulated aerobic activity, which may potentially contain virus. This study is based on previous research that shows the virus which causes COVID-19 can travel in respiratory aerosol. This study then was designed to identify performing arts activities that generate respiratory aerosol including volume, direction, density, and mitigation strategies. Aerosol is defined as solid or liquid particles suspended in a gas. For more information, please click here, or download the report below:

4/14 Impact Weekly, Superintendent’s message about the arts

Hello everyone,

“Art is a line around your thoughts.” ~ Gustav Klimt Art nurtures creativity, innovation, and culture. It plays a key role in sharing knowledge, encouraging curiosity, and sparking dialogue. Today is World Art Day, and I invite you to celebrate the development and enjoyment of all things art.

Art is everywhere. If we look closely, it is in everything. Art is in the design of your cereal box, the graphics of the video games we love to play, and the songs we sing. Affecting our lives in both subtle and obvious ways, expected and unexpected, art connects us through tradition, and is present in poetry, food, dance, and stories.

Many of us have been spending an excessive amount of time in front of screens for virtual meetings, emails, and even for pleasure with streaming services. Today, I encourage everyone to take a few extra minutes to take part in a creative exercise, to look around, and discover the wonders and beauty that shape our world.

Be Well,

Mary Ann Dewan, Ph.D. County Superintendent of Schools
