-
Prepare for Wildfires
-
Sign-up for Emergency Alerts: Pay attention to emergency alerts and notifications for information and important instructions. Sign-up to receive text or e-mail alerts from local Office of Emergency Management.
-
Create an Emergency Plan: Keep your critical documents in a fire safe place, know your evacuation zones, and create an emergency supply kit that is easy to grab and go.
-
Protect Your Property: Maintain your lawn and remove any leaves, dead vegetation, and other debris that may easily catch on fire. Strengthen your home.
-
Returning Home After a Wildfire
-
If you've Evacuated the Area: Wait for public officials to say it's safe before returning. If your home was damaged, do not re-enter until it has been inspected by qualified professionals.
-
Use a Mask: Use respiratory protection such as an N95 face mask to limit your exposure and minimize inhaling dust particles and smoke.
-
Document Property Damage: Take photographs of your home, conduct a home inventory, and contact your insurance company for assistance.
-
Contact Friends & Family: Phone systems are often busy following any disaster. Send text messages or use social media to reach out to family and friends to ensure they are safe.
