SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is shining a light on using data to promote positive outcomes for students in the latest episode of "Spotlight on the SCCOE," a television series that launched in May.
The fourth episode, "Discussion on Student Data Systems," focuses specifically on
DataZone and the
Silicon Valley Regional Data Trust. Host Peter Daniels, Chief Public Affairs Officer, asks the distinguished panel to open up the topic by discussing the importance of student data and how it supports our youngsters.
Jon R. Gundry, County Superintendent of Schools, said, "From the County Office perspective, we see our role as providing the framework for making all this happen. And the project goes beyond the student academic information that the school district might use. The idea is to integrate data systems with county agencies and social services that these kids and families might need beyond what is in the school."
"It's become more and more important to gather all types of data so we can get a good picture of how our students are doing," said Dr. Stanley Rose, Superintendent of Santa Clara Unified School District. "Traditionally, we've been storing those different areas of data in different silos. What we're trying to do now is allow our data to go into one area that can be used interchangeably to look at data's use in a number of different ways."
This month's show also features Rodney Ogawa, Professor of Education at University of California Santa Cruz and Faculty Director of the Silicon Valley Regional Data Trust. "Spotlight on the SCCOE" was created to help inform the local community about the latest happenings in K-12 education. It features Superintendent Gundry and different guests discussing important issues affecting education.
