SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE), in partnership with six school districts, has been awarded $1.98 million to expand high-quality career technical education (CTE) for grades K-12.
Through this initiative, the SCCOE will collaborate with the following partnering districts: Metropolitan Education District, East Side Union High School District, Fremont Union High School District, Gilroy Unified, Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, and Santa Clara Unified. They will work together to ensure students graduate with the skills, credentials, and work-based learning experience required for high-wage, high-demand careers. To close equity gaps, the SCCOE will prioritize outreach and support historically underrepresented students, including low-income, English learner, foster and homeless youth, and students with disabilities. Planned efforts include targeted counseling, transportation assistance, and extended learning opportunities to reduce barriers to access.
“This investment will strengthen career education pathways for youth across Santa Clara County, helping students access opportunities that lead to livable wage careers,” said County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David M. Toston, Sr. “What we do for students now will positively impact their futures.”
This funding will drive innovation in career education by expanding curriculum in high-demand sectors, including health, construction, advanced manufacturing, transportation, and culinary arts. New, sequenced pathways will equip students with industry-recognized certifications, while programs are aligned with California CTE Model Standards to ensure excellence and relevance. Strengthened articulation and dual enrollment agreements with community colleges will create seamless transitions from high school to college and careers. Through strong partnerships and targeted advising, including internships and pre-apprenticeships support, the initiative opens pathways to equitable careers and a future-ready workforce.
