“This enhancement to the Playbook furthers the readers’ knowledge on creating equitable environments for all children in the early stages of life to shape a positive trajectory for infants and young children,” said Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “To reach this goal, we must ensure that all children receive what they need to reach their fullest potential.”
A variety of materials, such as policy papers, professional articles, and resources are included in the Playbook enhancements to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in schools. This project has been made possible in part by a grant from the Sand Hill Endowment Fund and the Early Childhood Fund: Ensuring a Foundation to Flourish grantmaking strategy of Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
In September 2020, the SCCOE launched the
Ways 2 Equity Playbook at the 7th annual Inclusion Collaborative State Conference. The Playbook is a tool to identify equity needs in organizations in an effort to improve student outcomes, specifically for three historically marginalized student groups: African American students, students with disabilities, and English learners. Following the launch, informative webinars were held for educators to build a network to share best practices and learnings.
The Ways 2 Equity Playbook was a two-year project of the California Equity Performance and Improvement Program (CEPIP) grant made possible by Assembly Bill 99, authored and promoted by Assemblywoman Dr. Shirley Weber. The grant was designed to create funding to promote equity in California’s public schools, by supporting and building capacity within County Offices of Education, local educational agencies and schools. To fulfill this effort, the SCCOE partnered with several national equity organizations including the National Equity Project (NEP) and Western Educational Equity Assistance Center (WEEAC), as well as several local school districts.
