​SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is sharing an update on Walden West Outdoor School as planning and construction efforts continue. These efforts support long-term program stability while advancing facility improvements that enhance outdoor learning opportunities for students across Santa Clara County.

Interest in Walden West remains strong for the 2026–27 school year. To date, 74 schools have indicated their intent to participate. Some schools have finalized the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) process while others are currently in the process of finalizing formal agreements. Enrollment projections currently range between approximately 4,000 and 4,300 students.

The County Office is in the final stages of completing an agreement with Via West to support Walden West operations during construction. Confirmation will be shared once finalized.

Planning and pre‑construction activities for the Walden West construction project are progressing. SCCOE anticipates completing the bidding process and selecting a contractor by the end of May 2026. The project is currently targeted for completion in December 2027. All timelines are subject to change based on permitting, construction conditions, and other factors.
