SAN JOSE, CA – The California Department of Education recently recognized 21 Santa Clara County elementary schools as 2020 California Distinguished Schools.
This program recognizes outstanding educational programs and practices that contribute to closing the achievement gap and assisting students in achieving at high levels.
“We are delighted that so many of our local schools have received this honor," stated County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “These exemplary educational programs are providing the support necessary for students. We are particularly inspired and encouraged by the impact that these schools are having on the children and youth in their communities."
“We recognize that this achievement is through the efforts of schools, communities, and families in partnership. Distinguished School award winners represent not only excellent teaching, learning, and collaboration, but also highly effective school climate efforts ranging from real-time conflict resolution to positive behavior intervention, for example."
“Programs like the California Distinguished School Awards allow our county an opportunity to collaborate for excellence and celebrate the accomplishments of some of the remarkable schools in our county. As educators, we are all members of one community, and together we can learn from one another and share innovative practices that help us achieve our vision transforming education within the county through leadership, service, and advocacy," added Dewan.

The California Distinguished Schools will be honored by the Santa Clara County Board of Education at a February meeting and will be recognized by the state on February 10.

About the Santa Clara County Office of Education
Working collaboratively with school and community partners, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is a regional service agency that provides instructional, business, and technology services to the 31 school districts of Santa Clara County. The County Office of Education directly serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The SCCOE also provides academic and fiscal oversight and monitoring to districts in addition to the 22 Santa Clara County Board of Education authorized charter schools.
