SAN JOSE, CA – At its January 29, 2024 meeting, the Santa Clara County Board of Education (SCCBOE) approved a
resolution recognizing sustained peace and safety for all children. The SCCBOE stated it looks forward to a future where all can live with dignity and security in peace and confirming its strong belief in calling for a ceasefire for sustainable peace in the Middle East, including Palestine and Israel.
The SCCBOE cherishes cultural richness and strives to ensure all communities feel respected and heard. “Our resolution demonstrates to students across the county that their safety and well-being is a top priority,” said County Board President Maimona Afzal Berta.
The SCCBOE previously adopted resolutions “Denouncing Anti-Semitism” and “Denouncing Islamophobia.'' These resolutions affirmed the County Board of Education’s embrace of the county’s diverse culture.
“It is critical that respect, empathy, education and understanding of people of all backgrounds is fostered, valued and practiced in the greater community. Doing so promotes hate-free communities, schools, and classrooms,” stated President Berta.
