SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) Risk Management Department is inviting members of the Santa Clara County Education Community to attend a free Active Shooter Response training at the Ridder Park Office, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12. This three-hour training will prepare education professionals for potential dangerous incidents within the school community.
Participants will learn "Run, Hide, Defend/Fight" a safety strategy designed to prepare for potential intruder events.
"Active shooter response training is one of the most highly requested programs from our branches, departments, and the districts in Santa Clara County," according to Paul Finucane, Risk Management Specialist at the SCCOE. "In the event of a dangerous intruder situation, school employees need to know strategies to take decisive and situational action to minimize the loss of life."
The event will be facilitated by John Ortega of Emergency Preparedness Group, Inc. He is one of the nation's leading experts on providing expert safety analysis, with an extensive background in Emergency Preparedness through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
