SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Board of Education (SCCBOE), pursuant to Education Code sections 5090-5093, is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on its seven-member Board of Education. The open Board Trustee 2 seat was created after Vice President Kathleen King resigned during the June 9, 2021 Board Meeting to devote her attention to the Healthier Kids Foundation.
The County Board serves as a decision-making body for county-wide charter schools and serves as an appellate body for charter school petitions denied by local school districts. The board also is an appellate body for such actions as interdistrict attendance requests and student expulsions.
Any registered voter residing in Trustee Area 2 is eligible to serve on the County Board of Education except the county superintendent of schools or any member of her staff and any employee of a public school district or charter school within the jurisdiction of the Santa Clara County Board of Education. The County Board invites eligible persons who would like to be considered as a candidate for an appointment to apply.
Applicants must be registered voters and must reside within Board Trustee Area 2, which includes the Cupertino Union, Lakeside Joint, Loma Prieta Joint Union, Los Gatos Union, Saratoga Union, and Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School districts and small portions of Santa Clara Unified and Sunnyvale and the corresponding portion of Fremont Union High School District. In addition, California law requires that candidates be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of California, and must not be disqualified from holding a civil office. Applicants can verify residency in Area 2 by calling the Santa Clara County Office of Education at (408) 453-6869.
Interested individuals should submit a letter that includes interests and qualifications for the position. Include a minimum of three references and a resume. All materials must be received by 12:00 noon, July 16, 2021. All materials, upon submission, become property of the SCCOE and as such, are public record.
The County Board generally meets in public session on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. or as established by the adopted annual Board calendar at SCCOE, 1290 Ridder Park Drive, San Jose. Eligible candidates will be interviewed at a public meeting of the County Board. It is anticipated that the County Board will take action on the appointment on August 4, 2021.
