SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE), FIRST
5 Santa Clara County, Santa Clara County Public Health Department, and Second
Harvest of Silicon Valley are celebrating the release of “Potter the
Otter Eats School Meals.”
Beloved children’s book character Potter the Otter promotes healthy living to young children, and is the
creation of FIRST 5 Santa Clara County. In this latest release, Potter, with
the help of his family and friends, learns that food is fun, helps him learn,
and provides energy for the day!
Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, Santa Clara County Office of Education Superintendent,
and Cora Tomalinas, FIRST 5 Santa
Clara County Commissioner, will serve as guest readers. Second Harvest’s Vice President
of Strategy and Advocacy Tracy Weatherby and Santa Clara County Public Health’s
Jennifer Gacutan will also be present. Potter the Otter will be on hand to
greet children and families.

Working in partnership with school districts and
community organizations, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) provides
instructional and business services to the 31 school districts of Santa Clara
County. The SCCOE directly serves students through special education programs,
alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant
education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The Office also offers academic and
fiscal oversight and monitoring to districts in addition to curriculum support,
staff development, and technology support and training. Through its Charter
Schools Office, the SCCOE oversees the 22 Santa Clara County Board of Education
authorized charter schools.
