SAN JOSE, CA– Three award-winning teachers share their love of the profession in the 10th and final episode of the Public Service Announcement (PSA) video series, "Why I Teach."
"There is really no better job in the world. I have former students who went through my program and went to culinary school," said Kelly Villarreal, a culinary arts teacher at Wilcox High School in Santa Clara Unified School District. The students she has taught have now returned to the program as teachers, "it is one of my proudest moments that they come back and are following in my footsteps."
Kelly is one of three educators highlighted in the final edition of the PSA series. She is featured alongside Rick Barlow from Fremont High School in Fremont Unified High School District, and Elizabeth Jarrett from Westmont High School in Campbell Union High School District.
Every year SCCOE sponsors the Teacher Recognition Celebration, this event highlights the achievements of educators who demonstrate dedication in their role of helping their students succeed. It also acknowledges the training that teachers undertake and their performance both in the classroom and community.
Applications for the 49th annual Teacher Recognition Celebration are currently open. The 2017 celebration will take place at the Heritage Theatre in Campbell on October 4. Visit the Teacher Recognition Celebration to learn more about the event, view videos and photographs of previous ceremonies, and get to know past honorees.
