SAN JOSE, CA– Three teachers share their love of the profession in the 10th and final volume of the 2017 Public Service Announcement (PSA) video series, "Why I Teach." Since January, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) has highlighted 30 teachers from across the county who explain why teaching in K-12 education is a rewarding career.
"I teach because I can't imagine anything that's more important to the future than educating the students that we have," said Barbara Wooley, a teacher at Hyde Middle School from the Cupertino Union School District.
Barbara is one of three educators highlighted in the final PSA installment, as well as Howard Barnes from Ann Sobrato High School in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, and Natasha Thompson-Ritchie from Saratoga High School in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District.
These PSAs applaud the work of teachers who were honored during the 2016 Teacher Recognition Celebration hosted by the SCCOE last fall. This annual event was created to showcase the efforts and contributions of teachers and their role in helping our youth to succeed, recognize educational achievements, and acknowledge the many years of training that teachers undertake to prepare for and stay current in their profession.
The annual Teacher Recognition Celebration is co-sponsored by Texas Instruments and the Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union, with support from the San Jose Mercury News, Santa Clara County School Boards Association, Sixth District PTA, and other local businesses.
Nominations and applications for the 49th annual Teacher Recognition Celebration are currently open. The 2017 celebration will take place at the Heritage Theatre in Campbell on September 14.
