GILROY, CA – On Friday, October 22, 2021, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) hosted a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Santa Clara County Office of Education South County Annex. The County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, joined SCCOE staff, Gilroy Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Deborah A. Flores and other Santa Clara County dignitaries to celebrate the opening of the annex, which serves as a hub for health services, early learning services, migrant education, and alternative educational opportunities for students and families across Santa Clara County.
“Opening this location is one of the ways we are working to improve access to inclusive, equitable, high-quality education and be a premiere service organization,” said Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, County Superintendent of Schools, “Our Early Learning Services, Alternative Education Departments, the Opportunity Youth Academy, and Migrant Education Program can increase their impact, be more accessible, and better serve students and families with our expanded presence in the southern portion of our county.”
In addition to providing high-quality educational programs and support, the Santa Clara County Office of Education South County Annex also served as a central hub for students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since July 2020, more than 75,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered at the campus in partnership with Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The location will continue to provide important health care services by providing medical care through a partnership with the School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County, an organization that focuses on providing affordable and easily accessible care to children and families.
