SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education’s (SCCOE) Walden West was named as one of
America’s Best Summer Camps 2023 by Newsweek and Plan-A Insights Group. Walden West joins the list of the country’s best 500 summer camps serving youth educational and memorable summer fun.
“The SCCOE is proud of Walden West staff and volunteers for providing Santa Clara County students equitable access to science and environmental education,” said County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. “Students who attend Walden West develop essential leadership, relationships, and environmental stewardship skills. And, they have fun while learning.”
For more than 70 years, Walden West has provided hands-on, outdoor educational experiences focused on environmental science for students and families in Santa Clara County. Walden West, located in the Saratoga hills, uses the outdoors to teach science concepts while introducing students to natural environments.
According to the American Camp Association, an estimated 20 million kids nationwide attend summer camp each year. Annually, Walden West serves more than 12,000 students in grades K-9 during the school year and 14,000 during the summer. Nearly 1,000 high school and college students receive learning service hours each year by volunteering in the summer and throughout the school year.
Walden West is accredited by the American Camp Association and is certified by the California Outdoor School Association.
