SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is relaunching the Region 1 Migrant Education Program (MEP), restoring vital educational support for thousands of migratory children and youth across six Bay Area counties. This follows the release of previously frozen federal funding.
Region 1 includes 67 school districts across Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Benito, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, and Alameda counties. The MEP provides essential services to students whose families relocate frequently for agricultural or seasonal work, ensuring they have access to equitable learning opportunities and resources.
Through partnerships with 18 District Service Agreement (DSA) subgrantees, SCCOE coordinates recruitment, eligibility certification, academic support, and enrichment activities. The regional office also provides technical assistance and fiscal oversight to districts, enabling them to deliver programs tailored to the unique needs of migratory students and families.
“The release of federal funding ensures we can provide students and families with the resources, connections, and learning opportunities they are entitled to,” said Dr. David Toston, County Superintendent of Schools.
With the relaunch of the program, SCCOE and its partners reaffirm their commitment to advancing educational equity for migratory children, helping them succeed academically while building stronger connections to their communities.
