SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) was notified of concerns regarding the reimbursement of board members for education and training. In response, SCCOE requested and was provided with documentation from Alum Rock Union School District, which has been responsive and collaborative throughout this process. After reviewing the materials provided by ARUSD on August 4, 2025, SCCOE determined that an extraordinary audit was warranted.
SCCOE has formally requested an extraordinary audit by the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) pursuant to California Education Code § 1241.5(b), this request is not a finding of wrongdoing. It initiates an independent review to establish the facts.
SCCOE has received numerous inquiries regarding this matter. To protect the integrity of the audit, SCCOE will not provide additional updates or comments until the audit is complete. Within 45 days of the audit’s completion (the date of the final report), the Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools will present the findings and any recommendations to ARUSD’s governing board at a regularly scheduled meeting.
SCCOE recognizes that an audit requires staff time and resources and appreciates ARUSD’s commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of public funds in service of students and the community. SCCOE remains a supportive partner and is confident that this independent review will help all parties move forward with clarity and trust.
