SAN JOSE, CA – "I teach because I had incredible teachers when I was growing up, and they impacted my life, and I have the chance to come in every day and the change the life of these kids," says Tanya Boyle, a teacher from R.J. Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos Union School District.
Boyle is highlighted alongside Guadalupe Alvarez from Independence High School in East Side Union High School District and Catherine Messenger from Los Gatos High School in Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District in the latest episode of "Why I Teach."
All three teachers are District Teachers of the Year; they were honored during the 2017 Teacher Recognition Celebration in Campbell last fall.
"In this brief, but inspiring, series we learn about the rewards of teaching as a profession," says Peter Daniels, Chief Public Affairs Officer.
"The 'Why I Teach' videos are just one of many efforts Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) has produced to retain and recruit high-quality teachers in the county. Throughout the year, the SCCOE offers support and training, and we host hiring events like the upcoming Teacher Recruitment Fair, which is a day designed for credentialed teachers, psychologists, counselors, school nurses, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists to meet with local districts," adds Daniels.
A new episode of "Why I Teach" will be released Mondays until March 26. In addition to being posted to the SCCOE YouTube channel, the videos will also be provided to local cable access channels in the various municipalities throughout the county.
