SAN JOSE, CA – The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) in partnership with Placer County Office of Education, Kern County Superintendent of Schools and WestEd received the Scaling Up Multi-tiered System of Support Statewide (SUMS) Partner Entity grant totaling $12.5 million from the California Department of Education (CDE). The SCCOE will work with the Placer County Office of Education, the identified partner entity by the CDE, to help build capacity for professional learning opportunities for educators and school leaders across the state.
Provided by the CDE Educator Excellence and Equity Division, the grant period is from February 15, 2022, through February 15, 2026.
The funding is designated through the Budget Act of 2021 which allocated $50 million to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI) to apportion to the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) for the purpose of funding schoolwide and districtwide implementation of services or practices aligned to the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework.
Per the CDE, Placer County Office of Education with the support from the SCCOE, Kern County Superintendent of Schools and WestEd was recognized for demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering high-quality professional learning to educators in socio-emotional learning (SEL); trauma-informed practices; and culturally relevant, affirming, and sustaining practices in a manner that aligns with local MTSS.
The SCCOE will collaborate to expand the state’s capacity to support social-emotional learning; trauma screening; trauma-informed practices; and culturally relevant, affirming, and sustaining practices to districts and schools.
