SAN JOSE, CA – To coincide with Step into Teaching and the annual Teacher Recruitment Fair, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) is publishing a third series of public service announcements (PSA) video testimonials highlighting the teaching profession. This series features 2017 district teachers of the year sharing "Why I Teach."
The first video installment features Dean Hodges from Sartorette Elementary in the Cambrian School District, Marcia Araujo from Katherine Smith Elementary in the Evergreen School District, and State Teacher of the Year nominee Allison Pruitt from Washington Elementary in San Jose Unified School District.
All the teachers featured in this video series were honored during the SCCOE's 2017 Teacher Recognition Celebration last fall in Campbell.
The PSA series, which will be rolled out every Monday for the next ten weeks, is part of an on-going initiative to increase qualified teaching candidates. In addition to the video testimonials the SCCOE will host two upcoming events:
Step into Teaching: Opportunities in Silicon Valley Public Schools on February 10. This program is designed for individuals with or who are completing their bachelor's degree, business professionals with an interest in teaching, and classified school employees looking to transition into certificated positions.
Santa Clara County Teacher Recruitment Fair on March 24. This program is designed for individuals who have a California preliminary, clear, or professional clear teaching credential or will have a credential by fall 2018 or have a credential from outside California or have at least one year of experience in a teaching intern program. It is an opportunity for those seeking teaching positions to meet with those who hire teachers and other certificated candidates, including psychologists, counselors, school nurses, speech language pathologists, and audiologists.
In addition to being posted to the SCCOE YouTube channel, the videos will also be provided to local cable access channels in the various municipalities throughout the county.
