SAN JOSE, CA - "I teach because I like seeing students coming in at the beginning of the year, and the changes that they make by the end of the year. To witness that growth in one individual is amazing, but to see it with 70 to 100 people every single year keeps it interesting, and it is not the same thing every year. It challenging, but rewarding," says Rebecca Balster from Ocala STEAM Academy in Alum Rock Union School District.
Rebecca Balster from Alum Rock Union School District, Betty Yamasaki from Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, and Erin Leary from Cupertino Union School District share the joys of their profession in the latest episode of "Why I Teach."
All three exceptional teachers were honored last fall at the 2017 Teacher Recognition Celebration.
The Learning Policy Institute recently surveyed 25 California school districts, and three-fourths of the districts were unable to fill all vacant positions with credentialed teachers by the beginning of the current school year. Teacher shortage has become more severe in many communities according to the report.
To remedy this shortfall, Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) will host a Teacher Recruitment Fair on Saturday, March 24. The Teacher Recruitment Fair is designed to employ high quality credentialed teachers, psychologists, counselors, school nurses, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists to teach in Santa Clara County.
