SANTA CLARA, CA – The 2023 Annual Santa Clara County Children’s Summit was held on March 17, 2023, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. This year’s summit was themed Joy, Community, and Action.
“The summit is a gathering of education and agency leaders, Children’s Agenda Network members, community partners, and others to consider the wellbeing of children and youth in Santa Clara County,” said County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Ann Dewan.
Participants in the 2023 summit had the opportunity to hear from the Children’s Agenda Co-Chairs including Len Edwards and Fernando Mendoza and Inciting Joy author Ross Gay. Participants learned about the updated Bill of Rights for Children and Young Adults from youth leaders from the Youth Liberation Movement and interacted with the new data dashboard that spotlights key data from the 2023 Children’s Data Book.
The Executive Director of Kids In Common, Dana Bunnett, encouraged attendees to review the Bill of Rights for Children and Young Adults and take steps to fulfill them for all children and youth in Santa Clara County. The Bill of Rights can be found at:

The 2023 Children’s Data Book is a collaboration between Kids in Common, the County of Santa Clara, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education to publish data about how youth are faring and to make recommendations to foster improvement. Through this effort, the partners seek to ensure that every child in Santa Clara is safe, stable, healthy, and successful in learning and thriving in life. To review the data dashboard, visit

The 2022 Children’s Data Book won a Publication Merit Award from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) and an Annual Report Merit Award from the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA).
Interested participants ended the Summit with a Fentanyl and Naloxone Awareness Training provided by County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Dewan and staff from the SCCOE Youth Health and Wellness team.
