Maimona Afzal Berta was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Education in 2022. Prior to joining the SCCBOE, Maimona served as a trustee on the Franklin-McKinley School District Board of Education from 2018 to 2022.
With a deep commitment to advancing equity and inclusion, Maimona is especially passionate about special education, early learning, and educator preparation and support. She holds a master's degree in special education and a California teaching credential to serve students with disabilities. With over a decade of experience teaching in public schools and as a parent of a public school student in Santa Clara County, Maimona brings both professional and personal insight to the board.
