March is Youth Arts Month where we celebrate and highlight the arts in schools. Showcase your dance, media arts, music, theater, and visual arts programs, students, teachers, and community!
Let's celebrate and join the Young Artist Showcase!
Proclaim It All Across the Land!
One strategy Artspiration has utilized to promote Youth Arts Month is proclamations. A proclamation is an official announcement of an important matter. Here are the basic steps to getting a proclamation.
- Identify who you want to make a proclamation. Some to consider are school boards, city councils, and county board of supervisors at the local level. You can also consider state and federal contacts that serve your region like a senator or house member.
- Contact the city clerk, mayor’s office, or city council member and inquire about issuing a proclamation for Youth Arts Month. Include an example of the document for them to build on.
- Once confirmed, attend the scheduled city council meeting to receive the proclamation. Take pictures. Prepare to say a few words about the importance of arts education. Sometimes, they will mail it to you or have it ready for pick-up.
- Showcase and highlight the proclamations. We display the proclamations as a part of our Young Artist Showcase Celebration. Afterwards, we hang them prominently throughout our building.
- Thank the city council with a letter, share photos of the proclamations, and invite them to events.

Music in Our Schools Month(MIOSM®)
Music In Our Schools Month® or “MIOSM®” is NAfME’s annual celebration during March which engages music educators, students, and communities from around the country in promoting the benefits of high quality music education programs in schools. Music In Our Schools Month® began as a single statewide Advocacy Day and celebration in New York in 1973 and grew over the decades to become a month-long celebration of school music in 1985.
Theatre in Our Schools
The Educational Theatre Association and the International Thespian Society have partnered with the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE) to sponsor
Theatre in Our Schools to raise public awareness of the impact of theatre education and draw attention to the need for more access to quality programs for all students.
The Student Voices program puts youth at the center of Create CA’s advocacy work. We support students fighting for education equity and access to an arts education in their schools and communities.

#WeCreate408
The Power of Creative Expression
The City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs launched the #WeCreate408 social media campaign in partnership with other San Jose arts organizations, artists, and local businesses. Through the campaign, the goal is to highlight the range of creativity happening everyday in the South Bay.
We invite you to join us in celebrating San Jose’s creativity by tagging photos of your creations and creative experiences #WeCreate408 on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Your tags will help showcase the uniqueness of this place where we live and work. It also helps us know what and how people are creating in San Jose, so that we can continue to develop programs that further strengthen the cultural vibrancy of the city. Visit the
