Walden West is excited to announce two new camps in the Abby Sobrato Science
and Sustainability Center for Summer 2013! These intensive one-week science
camps will focus on the science behind sustainability and renewable energy.
Both camps will have guest experts and hands-on opportunities to design and
construct renewable-energy based projects. In addition to the engineering
component, campers will test their limits on the high ropes course.
Sustainable Solutions for incoming fifth and sixth graders will be focused
on learning how sustainable technologies work while participating in activities
like building batteries, competing in a solar oven design contest, comparing
different energy requirements, and making smoothies while pedaling our energy
bikes.
Engineering Energy for incoming seventh, eighth, and ninth graders will take
these sustainability-focused projects a bit further, delving into daily design
challenges, including geothermal and wind turbine construction. Participants
will also get a chance to experiment with solar-oven and pedal-powered smoothie
recipes.
The Thursday night BBQ/campout and Friday breakfast and lunch are not a part of the Science and Sustainability
Center programs; however, if a participant has a sibling in the Summer Day Camp, they are welcome to stay
and join your family for the 6:00 BBQ. Campers may sign up for Science and Sustainability programs
as well as a week of Summer Day Camp if they are age eligible.

Our program is led by the Walden West staff in collaboration with university engineering students. Staff members bring with
them years of camp experience and hold certificates in first aid, CPR, and lifeguarding.

Bring your camper to Walden West for check-in Monday morning between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. For the
remainder of the week, Walden West will transport campers to and from Saratoga School (14592 Oak Street).
Afternoon drop-offs begin Monday at 4:45 p.m. Morning bus pick-up is from 8:30 until 8:45 a.m. and
begins Tuesday.
