Joseph Di Salvo began his 33-year career in education as a teacher at Osborne School in Juvenile Hall. He serves on the Joint Committee on Child Care, Joint Legislative Advisory Committee and the Juvenile Justice Systems Collaborative. He has been a teacher, director, elementary and middle school principal, union president for Santa Clara County teachers, and administrative president for multiple school districts. He also served for three years as a personnel commissioner for the SCCOE. In 2001, he was recognized as the ACSA Region 8 Administrator of the Year.
He also has written columns on education that have been published in Media News’ Silicon Valley Community Newspapers, and has worked as an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University and National University’s Graduate School of Education. He also writes a blog on San Jose Inside.
Joseph was born and raised in San Jose, graduating from St. Joseph’s Grammar School, Bellarmine College Preparatory and San Jose State University. He earned a masters degree in education from SJSU. His wife, Chris Di Salvo, is a professor of public relations at San Jose State University and owns her own public relations business. They have one son, Zack Di Salvo, a graduate of Bellarmine and UCLA. He attended San Jose Unified Schools Schallenberger Elementary and Hoover Middle School. He is now a branch manager for Wells Fargo Financial.
