2007 CAHSEE Release

Dr. Dale Russell, Director of Standards and Assessments of the SCCOE, and Linda Aceves, Assistant Superintendent Instructional Services Branch, have analyzed the data of the 2006 California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), released on Aug. 23, 2007.

Their findings compare 10th graders from Santa Clara County (SCC) with California tenth grade students across five subgroups.

English/Language Arts

  • A higher percentage of 10th graders from SCC (82%) passed the CAHSEE than 10th graders statewide (77%)
     
  • The mean scale score of 10th graders in SCC scored higher than CA 10th graders. (SCC mean scale score = 386 v CA mean scale score = 376)
     
  • Over the last four years, scores have remained relatively constant

Mathematics

  • A higher percentage of SCC 10th graders (84%) passed the CAHSEE than 10th graders statewide (76%)
     
  • The mean scale score of SCC 10th graders was higher than CA 10th graders. (SCC mean scale score = 395 vs. CA mean scale score = 380)
     
  • Over the last four years, scores have remained relatively constant

Achievement Gap

  • There continues to be an achievement gap of 20 to 30 points between Hispanic and African American subgroups and White and Asian subgroups.
